Parkview Elementary School
Arrival and Dismissal 2017-2018 - NOTE THE CHANGES
SAFELY transitioning 350 young children in and out of the school building every day does require rather strict procedures that must be followed by students, teachers and parents. The safety of our students IS our number one priority, everyday. PLEASE take the time to read through our arrival and dismissal procedures below. And, please, for the safetly of our kids, DRIVE SLOWLY around our school and do NOT pass other cars once your child leaves and enters your car. Thank you for helping to keep our kids safe.  - Mr. Getchell

Preschool Arrival   (Preschool vans drop off BEHIND Parkview. Preschool Parents Drop off IN FRONT of Parkview. They pull in the front loop and park near the front doors of Parkview. This is LIVE drop off. Parents remain in the driver's seat and our Preschool Teachers will take your child out of the car seat. It is much safer if your PreK Child's car seat is on the PASSENGER side of your vehicle. That way they exit your car directly onto the sidewalk.

Drop off at front door from 8:55 – 9:10am.  Parents, please pull all the way down the front circle before putting your car in park. This is a “live drop off”. Parkview faculty, along with Mr. Getchell, will be out front to greet the students and they will open the car door and escort your child to the sidewalk and ensure that your child enters the building safely. Students are considered tardy after 9:10am, and will have to check in at the main office.

**During the first couple of weeks of school, our kindergarten teachers greet the students outside and make sure they have all the students. ALL KINDERGARTEN CLASSES WILL MEET IN FRONT OF THE LIBRARY BETWEEN 8:55 and 9:10am during the first week of school. The teachers lead the students into the building, one class at a time.

First day of kindergarten is Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

AM Kindergarten (Mrs. Reese's Class) Dismissal (for half day kindergarten students ONLY) IS 11:50am.

FULL DAY Kindergarten DISMISSAL is 3:30pm, daily.
Kindergarten Parent Pick Ups will be escorted, by K Teachers, to the A-Wing doors where they will meet their parent(s) outside the doors. The A-Wing doors are on the far left side of the building, when facing the front of the building.

Drop off at front door from 8:55 – 9:10am.  Parents, please pull all the way down the front circle before putting your car in park. This is a “live drop off”. Parkview staff members, along with Mr. Getchell, will be out front to greet the students and they will open the car door and escort your child to the sidewalk and ensure that your child enters the building safely. Students are considered tardy after 9:10am, and will have to check in at the main office.

It is safer for your child to exit your car from the PASSENGER's SIDE of your vehicle.

Grades 1 and 2 Dismissal (same as Full Day Kindergarten)

Bus Students will begin getting called at 3:25pm.

ALL K-2 BUS STUDENTS WILL REPORT TO THE CAFETERIA AND SIT ON THE FLOOR IN STRAIGHT, MARKED LINES. BUS SIGNS WILL BE POSTED ALONG THE WALLS OF THE CAFETERIA AND TAPE WILL MARK WHERE THEY SIT. .

At 3:25pm, all the K-2 bus students will be called to the cafeteria. They will WALK into the room and quietly sit in their respective bus lines. Mr. Getchell will be in the bus room everyday to ensure that the room remains orderly, and that the noise level remains low.

At 3:25, one of the teachers on bus duty (stationed near the front entrance) will use a walkie-talkie to radio the other teacher in the bus room as soon as a bus pulls up. A teacher will escort each bus line – one bus line at a time - safely out of the building and onto the bus, making sure each student boards the correct bus. The students will walk from the cafeteria to the front door, in single file with their bus, and the bus duty teacher will put the students on the bus. All buses will pull up to the front door and students will be dismissed through the front door.

Note: if a bus arrives BEFORE 3:25, the students will remain in the building until 3:25. Dismissal will be at 3:30 for K-2 students, and I do not want to dismiss them any earlier than 3:30.

The last busses (often busses 7 or 8) are usually called at about 3:40.

Walkers and Parent Pick-Ups

All walkers and Parent Pick-ups will be dismissed out of the A-Wing/ Gym Doors (when facing the building, they are the doors on the far left). These students will be dismissed at 3:30 with an announcement over the intercom system by Mr. Getchell. Parents are asked to wait on the blacktop, and NOT come into the building to meet their child from 3:10 – 3:30. This will decrease congestion and allow teachers to safely escort their students outside. Please give teachers space to bring your child outside during dismissal. Thank you!

Parents: please park in the front parking lot and along the street in FRONT of the building and walk up the paved path to “Parent Pick-Up Park” and meet your child. Many teachers will park behind the building to make more parking spaces available to you. Please do NOT park out back as there are many high school students and coaches that use the back parking lot at this time of day.

When picking your child up, please let your child’s teacher know that you have your child and at least make eye contact with her so that we know everyone is safely accounted for. All students who have not met with their parent by 3:40pm will be escorted back to the office area where they will wait for their ride.
