Dear OAHS Students, Parents and Caregivers,
I hope this email finds you in good health as you adjust to a challenging time in history. I know that for many of our students, this time is really hard. We want you to know that we recognize and understand the disappointment you may feel over aspects of high school life that have been postponed or canceled. The community of educators at OA are here for you. We are here to listen to your frustrations, concerns, and questions. I am confident that we will get through it because of the character of our students and the care they receive from their families and teachers.
I speak for all the educators here at Oliver Ames High School when I say that we deeply miss our students and look forward to a return to school life as soon as it is safely possible. This situation creates a significant challenge for educators being separated from their students, and I am sure that our students miss the vibrant learning community at Oliver Ames High School.
Realizing that you have many questions that we simply do not have answers at this time, I encourage you to use the EPS website as your primary source: http://www.easton.k12.ma.us/trending_now.php The information on this site will be updated frequently and will prove a valuable resource for everyone. As important decisions are made, please rest assured that you will be notified directly by Dr. Cabral. Dr. Cabral’s email notices provide detailed sources of information and updates during this Covid19 closure.
At this time, term three will end Monday, March 30 and students will have an opportunity to submit missing assignments and assessments past this date. Students who do need to complete make-up work should reach out to their teachers. In addition, final exams will be eliminated this year for all students in order for teachers to use those days for completion of curriculum units.
The community of educators at OA are working diligently to develop a plan for the weeks from March 30-May 4 that will connect students with their teachers and provide engaging, graded, and required remote learning opportunities. These remote learning opportunities will reinforce skills previously taught this school year and will serve to deepen understanding. The specifics of the grading process will be communicated shortly. Throughout this distance learning time, teachers will be providing weekly learning plans and working to conduct weekly check-ins following the schedule below with students via their Easton Public School’s student email addresses. I need to stress the importance of students checking their emails daily. If you need help connecting to your EPS/OAHS Google email account please use the help desk firstname.lastname@example.org. This is the account teachers are using to reach out to students. If a student is in need of a Chrombook to use during this school closure, please email the helpdesk email@example.com and John Sousa will help coordinate meeting this need. If you need financial assistance in setting up wifi you can visit www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.

About check-ins and student work:
Check-ins can take many forms, from video conferencing using Google Meet, to discussion boards, to podcasts, to email, to virtual office hours.
Using either Google Classroom or other platforms teachers have been using with their classes all year, teachers will reach out to their classes to check-in, answer student questions and/or interact with students as needed.
Remote Learning Opportunity participation by students is required as the new format for schooling during this Covid19 closure.
On behalf of the Oliver Ames community, I want you to know that we miss you and we care about you. Many things are out of our control, but the things that are controllable are engaging our minds with these remote learning opportunities along with reading and journaling. It is vitally important to follow these social distancing directives so we can get back to life as we have known it as quickly as possible.

After speaking with administration amid growing concerns of COVID-19 we are extremely disappointed to announce that we will have to postpone this weekend's performance of Mamma Mia! Ultimately their is no higher priority for us than the health, safety, and the physical well-being of our students, audience, production team and the community as a whole.
As always, we have had overwhelming support and we appreciate your continued patronage, which has funded this program throughout the years. It is our intention to re-schedule all performances at a later date upon approval from our Administration, and state agencies. We will notify you as soon as more information is available.
We sincerely apologize for any difficulty this cancellation caused, and know that we are working to re-schedule.
